How to Clean Sticky Silicone Bakeware Without Damaging It

Sticky silicone bakeware usually has a thin film of cooking oil that ordinary rinsing has not removed.

Because silicone can hold oily residue at its surface, the answer is concentrated degreasing and gentle friction, not sharp tools or aggressive scouring.

  • Grease-cutting dishwashing liquid
  • A soft non-scratch sponge or dishcloth

Check the mold first

Read the care label before cleaning. Let the mold cool completely, then inspect it for tears, deep scratches, or crumbling edges. Replace damaged bakeware rather than trying to restore it.

Loosen the greasy film

Fill a basin with hot tap water and add enough dishwashing liquid to make a concentrated solution. Submerge the mold for 15 minutes. While it is still warm, wash both sides and work carefully around rims, corners, and patterned cavities.

Use only a soft sponge or cloth. Metal pads and abrasive scrubbers can roughen the surface and make future cleaning harder.

Treat stubborn patches carefully
