Homemade Spice Mix for Flavorful Sauteed Potatoes

A good spice mix for potatoes can turn simple sauteed potatoes into a flavorful side dish.

This blend is balanced, easy to store and works with cubes, wedges or sliced potatoes.

Ingredients for one small jar

  • 2 tablespoons sweet paprika
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon dried parsley
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon fine salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon chili powder, optional

How to prepare the spice mix

Mix evenly

Add all the spices to a clean dry bowl. Stir well with a small whisk so the salt, herbs and powders are evenly distributed.

Store properly

Transfer the blend to a dry jar with a tight lid. Keep it away from heat, light and steam so the flavors stay fresh.

How to use it on potatoes

For 700 g potatoes, use 2 tablespoons olive oil and 2 teaspoons of the spice mix. Toss the potatoes well before cooking so every piece is coated.

Saute over medium heat until golden outside and tender inside. Add a little extra parsley at the end if you want a fresher finish.

Conclusion

This homemade potato spice mix is practical and flexible. It adds warmth, color and aroma without making the potatoes too salty or heavy.
