Crispy Potato Cheese Stacks for an Easy Side Dish

These crispy potato cheese stacks are golden on the edges, tender in the center and easy to serve.

Thin slices of potato are layered with butter, herbs and cheese, then baked until crisp.

Ingredients for 6 servings

  • 900 g potatoes, peeled
  • 60 g melted butter
  • 80 g grated cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon fine salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil for the muffin tray

How to make potato cheese stacks

Slice the potatoes

Cut the potatoes into very thin slices, ideally with a mandoline, so they bake evenly.

Season and layer

Toss the slices with melted butter, garlic, thyme, salt and pepper. Stack them in an oiled muffin tray with a little cheese between layers.

Bake until crisp

Bake at 190°C for 35 to 40 minutes, until the tops are golden and the centers are tender.

Helpful tips

Use potatoes of similar size for neat stacks. Let them rest for 5 minutes before removing them from the tray.

Conclusion

Potato cheese stacks are simple but elegant. They work well with salads, grilled chicken or roasted vegetables.
