Sesame Beef Skewers With A Flavorful Marinade

These sesame beef skewers are simple, glossy and full of flavor. The marinade brings together soy sauce, honey, garlic, ginger and sesame for a quick dish that works on a grill pan or barbecue.

Ingredients For 4 Skewers

  • 500 g beef sirloin or rump steak, cut into 3 cm cubes
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon neutral oil
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 1 spring onion, sliced
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 wooden or metal skewers

Prepare The Marinade

In a bowl, mix the soy sauce, honey, sesame oil, neutral oil, garlic, ginger, sesame seeds and black pepper. Add the beef cubes and stir until every piece is well coated.

Cover and marinate for 30 minutes in the fridge. For a deeper flavor, leave it for up to 2 hours, but avoid marinating too long because the texture can change.

Thread And Cook

If using wooden skewers, soak them in water for 20 minutes. Thread the beef cubes onto the skewers, leaving a little space between the pieces so they cook evenly.

Heat a grill pan or barbecue over high heat. Cook the skewers for 2 to 3 minutes per side, depending on the thickness and desired doneness. Rest for 3 minutes before serving.

Serving Idea

Serve with steamed rice, cucumber salad or grilled vegetables. Add sliced spring onion and a few extra sesame seeds just before serving.

Conclusion

The marinade is what makes these beef skewers stand out. Keep the cooking hot and brief, then let the meat rest so the skewers stay juicy and flavorful.
