DIY Rosemary Tick Repellent Spray

A Simple, Natural Way to Stay Protected on Walks

Spending time outdoors is one of life’s joys — until ticks show up. These tiny pests can carry big problems, but that doesn’t mean you need to reach for harsh chemicals. With this easy rosemary-based spray, you can enjoy nature with peace of mind.

🧴 What You’ll Need

  • 2 sprigs of fresh or dried rosemary

  • 2 cups (500 ml) of water

  • Optional: 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar for extra bug-repelling power

🧪 How to Make It

  1. Bring the water to a boil.

  2. Add the rosemary and let it steep for 30 minutes, covered.

  3. Strain out the herbs and allow the liquid to cool.

  4. Pour into a clean spray bottle — and you’re good to go!

💡 Store it in the fridge for a week and give it a shake before each use.

How to Use It

  • Spray directly onto pants, socks, shoes, backpacks or any exposed clothing before heading outdoors.

  • You can also apply a light mist on your dog’s legs and back (avoid eyes, nose, and mouth).

  • Reapply every 2–3 hours if you’re out for an extended period.

🌿 Why Rosemary?

Rosemary’s strong aroma naturally helps deter ticks, fleas, and some biting insects — making it a perfect plant-based alternative to chemical sprays. It’s also safe to use around kids and pets in small doses.

🐾 Bonus Tick-Safe Tips

To stay even more protected:

  • Stick to clear trails and avoid brushing up against tall grass

  • Wear light-colored clothing to easily spot ticks

  • Do a full body check (including pets!) when you get home

  • Keep a tick removal tool in your first aid kit
