How to Remove a Grease Stain from Clothes Easily

Spilled oil while cooking or accidentally dropped greasy food on your shirt? Don’t worry. There’s a simple and effective way to deal with grease stains without using harsh chemicals.

What you’ll need

– Baking soda
– Dishwashing liquid (degreasing type)
– A soft toothbrush
– Lukewarm water

Steps to remove a grease stain

1. Blot the excess

For a fresh stain, gently blot it with absorbent paper to remove as much grease as possible without spreading it.

2. Sprinkle baking soda

Generously cover the stain with baking soda. Let it sit for 15 to 30 minutes to absorb the grease effectively.

3. Gently scrub

Use a toothbrush to softly scrub the baking soda into the fabric. This helps to lift the particles out of the fibers.

4. Add dish soap

Apply a few drops of dish soap onto the area and gently brush again. The soap breaks down any remaining grease residue.

5. Rinse and wash

Rinse the treated area with lukewarm water, then wash the garment in the machine at the recommended temperature—ideally 40 °C if the fabric allows.

What about delicate fabrics?

For sensitive materials like silk or wool, avoid scrubbing. Instead, gently dab the area using a cloth soaked in lukewarm water with a bit of baking soda and soap.

Final thoughts

This method works well on cotton, polyester, and denim. The key is acting quickly and using natural, gentle ingredients. Your clothes will thank you!
