Are flies invading your kitchen, garden, or trash area? Here’s an ultra-efficient, eco-friendly and zero-cost solution: a DIY sticky fly trap made from a simple plastic bottle and some glue.
📸 Visual Proof
This homemade trap caught over 100 flies in one day. And you can make it in under 5 minutes!
🧴 What You Need
- 1 empty plastic bottle (water or soda)
- Mouse glue (or any strong non-toxic adhesive)
- A sugary or fermented liquid bait: fruit juice, vinegar, syrup…
- A needle or nail to pierce the cap
- String or wire to hang it
- (Optional) Gloves for applying glue
🛠️ Instructions
1. Prepare the bottle
- Keep it intact (don’t cut it).
- Clean and pierce 1 to 3 small holes in the cap with a hot needle or fine nail.
- ➡️ This allows the bait’s smell to escape and attract flies without opening the bottle completely.
2. Add the bait
- Pour 2–3 cm of sweet liquid into the bottom.
- You can add a piece of overripe fruit to increase its power.
3. Apply glue outside
- Spread a thin layer of glue around the neck and sides of the bottle.
- Do NOT cover the cap itself.
4. Hang the trap
- Use string or wire to hang it near fly-infested areas: trash, fruits, compost, etc.
- Place in shade to prevent glue from melting.
🧪 Why It Works
- Flies are attracted by sweet fermented smells.
- They approach and land on the sticky surface.
- They stay trapped — no escape.
✅ No need for them to enter the bottle.
✅ No drowning or toxins.
✅ Safe for kids and pets.
🧼 Maintenance Tips
- Replace bait every 3–4 days.
- If glue fills up with flies, apply new glue or change bottle.
- You can clean and reuse it or throw it away responsibly.
🏁 Final Result
- Easy to make
- Free
- Non-toxic
- Super effective
